Holy Cross International College (HCIC) Yaoundé on the 11th of February celebrated the 59th National Youth Day with a thrilling match past and grand festivities.

Joining youths and other institutions from across the nation was particularly spectacular at the Mfou ceremonial ground in the outskirts of Yaoundé. HCIC, dressed in official attire, thrilled the public as they marched past the grandstand with their heads held high, singing the emblematic Youth Day Song.
The official attire—a coat with a sky-blue shirt, trousers, and skirts for girls—was complemented by multi-colored ties and multiple flags from other countries, highlighting and showcasing HCIC’s identity as an international boarding catholic school with a distinctive character.

The sense of responsibility exhibited by the students, both in the National and Cambridge sections of the school, kept onlookers on the edge of their seats as they cheered the students who joined other institutions to commemorate the 59th National Youth Day in Cameroon.
The day’s activities at the Mfou ceremonial ground in Nkolafamba, Mefou, and Afamba Division, began with traditional rituals followed by the broadcast of a speech by Cameroon’s Head of State, Paul Biya, delivered on the eve of the celebrations in both English and French.

The celebration featured participation from various institutions, including primary and secondary schools, vocational training centers, and political parties, adding color and energy to the event.
In remarks after the match past, HCIC students and teachers expressed their satisfaction with the celebrations. They emphasized the importance of the event in fostering unity among students from different institutions and its positive impact on their educational journey.

“This commemoration allows us to connect with peers from other schools and reinforces our commitment to learning and national pride,” said a student.
The 59th National Youth Day celebration was held under the theme, “Youth: Maturity and Responsibility for the Consolidation of Peace, Security, Economic Growth, and the Democratic Process.”
