The campus of Holy Cross International College (HCIC) in Yaounde, Cameroon, was transformed into a vibrant tapestry of culture on February 15, as students, teachers, and parents gathered to celebrate the school’s 4th Annual Cultural Day.
The event that took place under the theme “Culture Without Borders, Celebrating Unity in Diversity” served as a powerful reminder that while the students are being prepared for a global future, their roots remain their strongest foundation.
The festivities were presided over by the School Proprietor Emmanuel Buban Ngu, alongside College Mother Dr. Julia Buban Ngu and other officials. Their presence highlighted the administration’s commitment to a holistic education.

Throughout the day, the campus was a sensory explosion of intricate beadwork, vibrant toghus, and flowing fabrics representing the diverse regions of Cameroon and beyond. This visual display was matched by the aromas of local delicacies, allowing attendees to literally taste the geography of their heritage.
The impact of the day was best captured by the students themselves, who expressed a deep sense of discovery and pride. One student noted that this year’s edition was particularly exceptional because it allowed for the discovery of local dishes and customs that were previously unfamiliar.
They stressed that knowing one’s roots is vital for any young person navigating the modern world. Another student shared their emotional connection to the festivities, remarking that the combination of traditional dress, local languages, and rhythmic dances was deeply moving and that there is a unique joy in truly embracing one’s culture.

Parents in attendance were equally moved by the display of talent and tradition. A parent stated that seeing children exhibit their culture is essential for their development, as it grounds them in their history. She expressed a sense of pleasant surprise at seeing her children dance with such traditional precision, admitting she had no idea they possessed such a deep connection to their heritage.
Beyond the performances, the school administration highlighted the event’s role in fostering social cohesion. In a community where students and staff hail from diverse backgrounds (Nationally and internationally), Cultural Day acts as a unique occasion for communion.

The administration stated that blending these various identities to sing, dance, and speak in the name of culture remains one of the school’s greatest points of pride, turning diversity into a source of collective strength. The 4th edition of the Cultural Day began with Holy Mass.
