Victoria Adams, visiting Regional Safety and Security Advisor for Sub-Saharan Africa from the British Council, has praised Holy Cross International College (HCIC) in Yaoundé for providing a safe and secure learning environment.

She made the remarks on the school campus on March 17 during her visit to Cameroon. Caroline Ndifor, Country Lead for the British Council in Cameroon, among others, accompanied her.
“It’s an amazing school. You can clearly see the children are very happy and have a safe and secure space to learn,” Adams said. “Yes, it’s lovely.”
Adams noted she received a warm reception upon her arrival. “That was the best welcome that I’ve ever had. It was lovely to feel part of the school as well,” she said. “I think everything looks really good. You can clearly see that things are displayed well.”

Adams added that she would be happy to return to the institution. “I honestly think everything from what I’ve seen is amazing… I would be really happy to come back and learn here.”
Dr. Julia Buban Ngu, the Mother of the School, thanked the British Council and noted the guest’s positive reaction to the campus. “I think I could see the smile on her face,” Ngu said.
Regarding the school’s mission, Dr. Julia described HCIC as an inclusive institution.

“We don’t really discriminate. We select almost everybody who loves this school,” she said. “During the course of the year, we help each one of them despite their shortcomings, and we tend to produce academic giants. It’s not a school where we take only those who are very intelligent.”
Dr. Julia characterized the institution as a “school of hope” with a conducive environment for success.
Manuella Wanko, the Vice Principal in charge of Safety and Welfare at HCIC, said the visit encouraged the institution and reinforced the school’s commitment to student safety.

“From the visit, one key thing is that we are going to help reinforce our safeguarding policies and security as a whole at Holy Cross International College,” Wanko said.
During the visit, Adams toured the Cambridge International section of the school, including classrooms, computer labs, security rooms, and laboratories. The visit concluded with a roundtable discussion between Adams and the school administration.
HCIC is an Anglo-Saxon, Catholic-style, co-educational boarding school located on the outskirts of Yaoundé in Akok, approximately 5 kilometers from the Nkoabang junction on the Yaoundé–Bertoua road.
