The 14th edition of the Holy Cross International College (HCIC) Proprietor’s Cup has begun with an exciting opening day of sporting activities.

School Proprietor launching the competition

The annual sports tournament kicked off Sunday, Dec. 7, with college Proprietor Emmanuel Buban Ngu launching the event. Flanked by the College Mother, Dr. Julia Buban Ngu, and the school administration, the opening spectacle ignited cheers from a mobilized student body eager for the games to begin.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, the Proprietor lauded the student mobilization focusing on holistic development. “By the time you come to this college and you leave this college, we have learned a lot, not just about academics, but how to live with other students, how to play with other students, how to enjoy with other students, and how to leave this school a mature person,” he stated.

Emmanuel Buban Ngu added that maturity is fostered through organization, discipline, and obedience to all school rules. “But most importantly, I think love of one another is very important.” He viewed the high mobilisation as a reflection of their satisfaction with attending HCIC, noting that sports are a unifying factor in the country. “I think it’s an opportunity for us to encourage that as far as we can go.”

The Proprietor stressed that the competition is designed to develop students’ skills and their ability to live together “in an atmosphere of love, in an atmosphere of discipline,” which he called particularly important in a less-disciplined society. “What they learn here will live with them throughout their lives.”

Looking ahead, he said, “We see a future which is very bright because we are intending to do a very good stadium for the students to play, and that would permit them to really show their talents, to show how they can play football.”

On the opening day, two senior football matches took place: Los/Las Jagadore defeated Citadel FC 2-1, and Xplicits FC beat El Jaguares FC 2-1. Matches in the Handball and junior football categories also took place.
